Connector Formerly Known As Cobb

For decades, the westernmost passage between the Muskegon River’s North and South Branches was called the Cobb Connector.

With the recent demolition of the eponymous Cobb Power Plant, a new name for the passage seems to be in order. Any suggestions?

Whatever the moniker (Wait. What? Chandler’s girlfriend?), here are some images from a paddle south through the passage.

The Whatever Connector is a lovely easy paddle. If you are interested in an early morning tour, please let me know.

Magnificent Morning

One of the most reliably gorgeous sunrise paddles on the lower Muskegon River is to head upriver on the North Branch between the Causeway and US31.

Even so, this foggy June morning on that stretch was exceptional.

A View from the Bridge

From a June 19 paddle on the Muskegon River near Veteran’s Memorial Park.

Besides a lovely view to the east from under the 31 bridge, the bridge itself also looked great in the sunrise.

Blazing Banks

These are from what will probably be the last paddle of the year.

The clear fall sky and early morning fog make these look as if there is a fire on the river bank.

Missed Connection

The long weekend offered lots of time for Muskegon River exploration. The first two days of which went very well.

Muskegon River, September 2, 2014

On the third, an attempt to verify an unlikely mapped connection between the branches went south both literally and figuratively. A long haul down a very narrow passage stopped abruptly at a wall of growth so thick that it felt like hitting a wall. The long paddle back to the north branch could only begin after turning around in a deep channel no wider than the boat itself.

Another relaxing holiday.
