Could yesterday morning’s snow be the last that we will see until next winter? It has been a long winter, but the cold has made for some really pretty walks around Muskegon.
This icy drop was part of the scenery next to Ruddiman Pond on Sunday morning.
This morning’s walk around Muskegon’s Ruddiman Pond was one of the coldest of the winter. While the breeze was extremely light, its effect on any exposed skin was painful.
In spite of the cold, the beautiful sunrise lighting up the ice made the trip well worth making.
Here is the sun coming up over the Ruddiman Creek valley just down the hill from Muskegon’s McGraft Park.
With the creek finally starting to thaw a bit, it’s really fun to watch all of the animals reappearing. Besides all of the resident ducks, there are usually a few large mammals navigating the water. These guys (beavers?) aren’t obvious as yet, but I’m sure that we’ll be seeing them any day now.

Figuring that the colder weather had diminished the chances of being killed by a powerboat to acceptable levels, a very early morning paddle on Muskegon Lake was rewarded with this view of the Milwaukee Clipper.

Muskegon’s Ruddiman Pond was the focus of a major restoration effort last year. Could this explain the huge increase in the number of birds living there this spring? Whatever the reason, the early morning action there is really fun to watch.
