It can be tricky getting close to these early morning ice formations on the Muskegon River. If you can manage to do it without inadvertently joining a one-man “polar bear club”, they are really fun to check out.

Froze out on the trail, December 29, 2008
This leaf was frozen to the walkway of Muskegon’s Lakeshore Bike Trail near the Cobb plant. The ice crystals gave it a really pretty fossilized effect.

Crossing the tracks from the Lakeshore Bike Trail just above the Northern Rail Yard, this train appears much more threatening than it actually was…
Muskegon River Railroad Bridge
This is a little railroad bridge that can be seen from the Lakeshore Bike Trail. If you’re heading north, it’s visible as you pass over the South Branch of the Muskegon River just before you come to the B.C. Cobb plant.
