It can be tricky getting close to these early morning ice formations on the Muskegon River. If you can manage to do it without inadvertently joining a one-man “polar bear club”, they are really fun to check out.

This leaf was frozen to the walkway of Muskegon’s Lakeshore Bike Trail near the Cobb plant. The ice crystals gave it a really pretty fossilized effect.

Just a few steps farther along, this berry was equally chilly, but was still a really gorgeous red.

The sign at the old Elks Club on Muskegon’s Ottawa Avenue is rarely left on when the club is closed. But, this morning it was blazing away with the red lights lighting up everything around it.
